AC Milan beats Inter Milan 2-1 to win Italian Super Cup

BEIJING — AC Milan won a record sixth Italian Super Cup on Saturday, rallying past city rival Inter Milan 2-1 at the Bird’s Nest stadium.

With the score 1-1, Milan’s Alexandre Pato ran onto a through ball. His shot hit the post, but Kevin-Prince Boateng slid to knock in the rebound. Boateng celebrated with a spinning kung-fu kick that delighted the crowds packing the Olympic stadium.

Inter led at halftime after Wesley Sneijder curled a free kick over the wall and the ball ricocheted in off the crossbar. Milan tied it on Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s diving header.

The Bird’s Nest has proved unlucky for Inter, which played in the stadium two years ago and lost 2-1 to Lazio. The victory put Milan one Italian Super Cup ahead of Inter and two in front of Juventus.

The Super Cup is the traditional curtain raiser for the Italian season, played between the previous season’s winners of Serie A (Milan) and the Italian Cup (Inter).

Three of the next four Italian Super Cups will be in China to help promote Italian soccer in Asia.

Inter Milan has been on the downward spiral since the Jose Mourinho took the Real Madrid job. I am not a big fan of the style that Mourinho plays, which looks very pedestrian and defensive at times, but his record as a manager is is unquestioned and his ability to motivate players and sell them a philosophy or style makes them respond, rise to the challenge and want to follow him from club to club. If you look back at the clubs he has been with in the past. He led Porto to a Champions League final and won, he took over for Chelsea and took them to the top winning lots of silverware putting them above Manchester United for several years, and then led Inter to the Sucdeto and Champions league final winning another European title. He has now taken over at Rea; Madrid and now led Real to a Copa Del Rey title. I respect his ability so much i have mentioned him as the best manager in the game, above Pep, Sir Alex. Look for Juventes and AC milan go head to head this year for the title. Juve has made many signings this off season, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will carry AC to the top and deep in the champions league. Inter just does not look the same and players like Snijder and Micon looking to make a move soon.
